Completion of Structural Strengthening
Excited to share the successful completion of another structural strengthening project.
This project involved the analysis, design and successful installation of steel column capitals to strengthen an existing RC transfer slab supporting a two-storey structure, where the existing reinforced concrete (RC) circular columns were causing punching shear through the slab.
My role included structural assessment and modelling of the RC slab (AS 3600 & SLB Inducta), analysis, design, and optimisation of the steel column capitals especially the parabolic configuration of the stiffeners (AS 4100), and design of the anchorage system into the existing RC slab and circular columns (AS 5216). Throughout the process, I coordinated with a multidisciplinary team for the design, optimisation, fabrication, and construction to successfully deliver the project from concept to completion.
Projects like this continue to strengthen my experience in structural analysis, RC and steel design, connection design, constructability, project delivery and multidisciplinary coordination.
