Aegis - Consulting Engineers and Building Inspections for Strata - March 2020

2019 was a great year for Aegis and a whirlwind 2020 so far. Can you believe it's March already?

We are especially proud to be donating our engineering services to help design and build a purpose-built home for a local man. When we heard Kyle had suffered a severe spinal injury playing the same sport in which three of our Aegis staff participate - we had to help.

Aegis' newest team member Patrick Davis has quickly become a great asset to our team. Patrick comes to us with background experience in earthworks and construction of infrastructure including Wind Turbines and Solar Farms, and expeditiously getting into structural design, forensic analysis and remediation of structures. If there are any strata schemes out there with an appetite for energy efficiency upgrades, Patrick is your engineer.

So far this year we have been engaged to deliver projects including:

  • Project management of fire non-compliance upgrade works.

  • Large defects inspections for new strata buildings, and expert witness work

  • Dilapidation reports for buildings with neighbouring developments

  • Design of new structures including slabs, structural steel, car parks and retaining walls

  • Scope of Works and Specifications for maintenance issues including water ingress

  • Numerous Capital Works Fund Plans and Safety Audits

  • Asset and access reviews and other capital works for the Nan Tien Temple

  • Innovative methodologies for stabilising sinking structures

We are a trusted engineering and asset management consulting firm providing services for NSW Government, Roads and Maritime Services, Wollongong City Council, Campbelltown City Council and many other LGAs, the University of Wollongong, University of Tasmania, Nan Tien Temple, and many private strata buildings and estates. We are also proud to have delivered heritage upgrade projects in Kiama and Campbelltown.

We have been providing our expert services to the strata sector for over 10 years. We are pre-qualified and undertake work for all major strata managing firms. We pride ourselves on providing the best expertise and client service possible, and we have an innate understanding of the complexities of managing strata titles. We care about protecting owners' assets and we always look to help busy strata managers and add value however we can through long term business relationships. We understand that when it comes to strata, navigating Owners' emotional investment in their properties is just as important as the engineering solution.

We also specialise in project management of foundation improvement works and remediation for moving and cracking structures.

We operate everywhere.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office, we are only too happy to help !

Defects Inspections Reports for Strata and New Buildings

Of the strata schemes constructed in the last 10 years, 85% are reported to suffer from at least one form of building defect. Many are major defects.

Owners Corporations are often the losers when it comes to building defects in their strata scheme, incurring large costs in order to carry out rectification works.

Defects inspections by an independent inspector for new strata buildings are now mandatory.

The building inspector must not be connected to the developer, must act impartially and cannot represent the interests of the developer.

Generally an 'Interim Report' should be undertaken between 15-18 months after the building work is complete. The developer and its builder will then have an opportunity to rectify any defects before the inspector prepares a 'Final Report'.

Our Independent Chartered Professional Engineers are qualified with Engineers Australia to undertake Defects Inspections.

We can also assist with escalation of defects resolution and rectification processes.

We have a proven record of identifying defects where cost savings far outweigh the cost of the inspection; rectification works costs would otherwise be borne by the owners.

Contact our office for an inspection proposal.
